Diagnostic approaches applied in psychiatry are often criticized anddeemed unsatisfactory because of their relative lack of reliability andvalidity. One reason for this complexity lies in the purely symptomaticapproach to diagnosis. This approach also results in misdiagnosis,difficulties and high risk of aberrant therapeutic choices.
