Fabio Patruno

Psychotherapist at the Villa Maraini Foundation

A Psychology graduate, he entered the Red Cross in 1977, becoming one of the founding members of the Villa Maraini Foundation. From then to date he has continued to cover several strategic responsibilities in the Foundation being, among others, the founding president of the Labour Co-operative “Villa Maraini” and the coordinator of the first street unit.

He is a Psychotherapist, well experienced in harm reduction and since 2004 he has been one of the main promoters of the training programme “To build up harm reduction capacities in Eastern Europe and Central Asian Red Cross and Red Crescent (RC/RC) National Societies” developed together by Villa Maraini, the Italian Red Cross, the IFRC (the International Federation RC/RC Societies) and the Network ERNA (European RC/RC National Societies Network on HIV, AIDS and TB).

In 2003, on behalf of the Italian RC, he was elected Vice-President of the Network ERNA www.erna.redcrossredcrescent.c... by the ERNA General Meeting, and, in 2009, he became President of the Network for the following six years.

During his professional life he has worked, as well as at Villa Maraini, in Hospitals, in Drug User’s Public Treatment Centres, in Prisons and in the Department of Epidemiology of the Lazio Region.

From 2010 he has been a member of the AIDS Health Technical Committee of the Minister of Health.

He has carried out personal analysis with one member of the Italian Psychoanalytic Society (SPI)

In 2000 he became a qualified yoga teacher by the International Association “Etude Transmission de Yoga” (E.T.Y.), recognized by the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (Chennai – India). Since then he has used Yoga as a way to empower drug users in treatment.

He deeply believes in the value of working in team and in the capacity of every human being to improve his own life.
